Residents attack warehouse and loot palliative in Bayelsa. Many citizens of Yenegoa, Bayelsa State, forced their way into a warehouse to steal palliatives intended for flood victims in 2022.
On Sunday, August 27, 2023, a warehouse near the Isaac Boro Motorway in the state capital was assaulted.
The looting happened amid considerable outrage in Nigeria over eliminating gasoline subsidies. The removal of subsidies has resulted in a significant increase in the price of petrol, pushing up the prices of products and services.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s government vowed to offer palliatives for Nigerians to mitigate the consequences of the elimination of gasoline subsidies. However, it remained unclear if the palliatives looted in Yenagoa were included in the promised products.

Some of the food in the warehouse was apparently expired, but that did not stop the people from looting them.
The state government under the administration of Senator Douye Diri, is yet to comment on the incident.
