Niger Coup leader Tchiani finally agrees to negotiate with ECOWAS. After meeting with Nigerian Islamic Scholars led by the national leader of Jama’atu Izalatil Bid’ah Wa Iqamatus Sunnah (JIBWIS), Sheikh Abdullahi Bala Lau in Niger Republic, Niger Republic coup leader General Abdourahmane Tchiani has agreed to dialogue with the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
According to Niger Republic Prime Minister Ali Mahamane Lamine Zeine, General Tchiani granted the go-ahead for discussions with ECOWAS and expressed confidence that negotiations will take place within the next few days.
“We have agreed, and our country’s leader has given the go-ahead for dialogue.” They will now go back and advise the Nigerian President of what they have heard from us… We hope that they (ECOWAS) will return here to visit us in the coming days to discuss how the sanctions imposed on us will be removed,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian Intervention Team, which included prominent Islamic scholars from the country, met with the coup leaders in Niger over the weekend, and all parties agreed to strengthen the option of dialogue in resolving the country’s political problem, according to a report published in Voice of Nigeria (VON).
The Islamic Ulammas, led by Sheikh Bala Lau, alleged to have met with General Abdourahmane Tchiani in Niger’s capital Niamey for many hours, during which they discussed various problems, including ECOWAS leaders’ demand that former President Bazoum be reinstalled.
